A third night of protests in the Georgian capital against the government’s decision to suspend and negotiate to join the European Union left 44 people injured and hospitalized. Ten thousand demonstrators gathered outside the parliament Saturday night. The attackers are throwing stones and setting the fireworks.

Police deployed the water cannons along with the tear gas. The effigy of founder and the governing Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili the shadowy billionaire made his fortune in Russia and that was burned in front of the legislature.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze warned that any violation of the law will be met with the full rigor of the law. He made a statement on Sunday like

“Neither will those politicians who hide in their offices and sacrifice members of their violent groups to severe punishment escape responsibility,”

He pressed it wasn’t true that Georgia’s European integration had been halted.

Hours after the European Parliament passed a resolution denouncing Georgia’s general election last month as neither free nor fair, the government made its pronouncement.

Additionally, Kobakhidze rejected the U.S. State Department’s announcement on Saturday that it was halting its strategic alliance with Georgia. Georgia’s decision to cease its EU admission attempts was denounced in the statement.

Kobakhidze said

“You can see that the outgoing administration is trying to leave the new administration with as difficult a legacy as possible. They are doing this regarding Ukraine, and now also concerning Georgia,”.

“This will not have any fundamental significance. We will wait for the new administration and discuss everything with them.”
