This followed. A 20-year-old who swallowed a razor during a suicide attempt was saved by Delhi doctors. The patient is currently recuperating and undergoing therapy after the medical team’s intricate surgery, underscoring the significance of attending to mental health concerns.
A 20-year-old guy who swallowed a shaving razor following a fight with his father was successfully treated by medical professionals at a private hospital in Delhi. He was experiencing suicidal thoughts and depression.
According to the story, the 20-year-old was in danger of dying after swallowing the razor in two pieces. The handle and the blade holder. The story is, that his father also had a mental disorder. That made matters worse for the family.
A surgical team led by Dr Tarun Mittal successfully removed a blade holder stuck in the stomach. It also shifted the handle to the large intestine using a two-step procedure. The team performed a laparotomy to open the stomach and pushed the handle down.
Dr Tarun Mittal, said,
“This was a peculiar case, not only because of the nature of the foreign body but also the psychological factors at play. Addressing such cases requires both good medical care and sensitivity to the patient’s mental health.”
He also highlighted the importance of seeking early help for mental health problems and removing the stigma around mental illness. Mittal also added
“Many people hesitate to seek care due to fear or shame, which can lead to dangerous situations,”.
His physical recuperation following the operation was satisfactory, and he is currently being referred for counseling to address his suicidal thoughts and melancholy. But the family is also looking for help with his father’s mental health problems.
The patient’s mother stated,
“We are deeply relieved and thankful to the doctors for their prompt action and care,”.
Dr Ajay Swaroop, the Chairman of Sir Gangaram Hospital, stated,
“I compliment the surgical team for this delicate surgery. At Sir Gangaram Hospital, we are committed to a holistic approach, and Mental health issues concern us. Also, special effects are taken to look after such individuals.”
