Before his performance in Bengaluru, British musician Ed Sheeran seemed to be in hot water for performing on a public sidewalk.

Regarding his street performance, Ed Sheeran posted a statement on social media claiming that he had been given permission to perform there beforehand.

On his Instagram Story, the “Shape of You” singer posted a message that said,

“We had permission to busk, by the way. Hence, us playing in that exact spot was planned out before. It wasn’t just us randomly turning up. All good though. See you at the show tonight x (sic),”.

Ed Sheeran was reportedly prevented from performing on a city sidewalk on Sunday by the Bengaluru Police, even though he had already obtained permission.

Ed Sheeran’s street performance in Bengaluru

A video of Ed Sheeran performing on a corner of Church Street in Bengaluru went viral on Sunday.

When Ed Sheeran began to sing the chorus of his hit song “Shape of You,” admirers swarmed around and joined him. But in the widely shared video, officers were seen unplugging connections, interrupting the spontaneous performance.

Ed Sheeran is scheduled to play at the NICE Grounds in Bengaluru today. Due to a huge demand for tickets, Bengaluru is the only city where the “Shape of You” singer will be playing for two days in a row.

As part of his Mathematics tour, the British musician has been traveling throughout India. He has already given performances in Chennai and Hyderabad. Sheeran’s next scheduled dates are February 12 in Delhi NCR and February 15 in Shillong.

Sheeran earlier said that he is always eager to perform in India. “It wasn’t until coming here in 2015, that I realised for the first time that people really like my music here. Whereas now, it’s clear that India is my biggest market,” he said in one of the videos.
