While Sukhbir Singh Badal was on guard duty outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Wednesday as part of his religious sentence, a guy who is reportedly a former militant named Narain Singh Chaura attempted to shoot him.
The attempt to shoot at the Shiromani Akali Dal leader resulted in Chaura, a member of the now-defunct Khalistan Liberation Army, being overcome and taken into custody. Narain Singh Chaura was able to shoot Sukhbir Badal, who has Z+ security, with his pistol as soon as he was apprehended, but it missed.

Stated Harpal Singh, ADCP, Amritsar Rural. Someone made an unsuccessful attempt to cause a disturbance during this period. The defendant has been placed under arrest. We won’t be able to determine the reason for his conduct until we question him.
In a 2004 case under the Arms Act, Chaura was previously convicted guilty. Chaura, a member of Gurdaspur’s Dera Baba Nanak, was released from prison in 2018 and has since been involved with Dal Khalsa and other organizations.
More than 20 cases have been brought against Narain Singh Chaura, the second-in-command of the Akal Federation, which Kanwar Singh Dhami established in 1982.
Following the incident, Sukhbir Singh Badal carried on with his seva, and as part of his religious sentencing, he spent an additional hour listening to kirtan inside the Darbar Sahib premises.
Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, a senior Akali leader, stated,
“On the orders of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, Sukhbir Badal was performing his service as a humble servant. During this time, a person tried to fire at him. The attacker was caught on the spot. I thank the security personnel for their bravery in protecting him.”
“I thank the True Lord for placing His hand on the servant’s head and saving him. We, as a party, condemn this incident.”
Cheema stated
“Our party has made significant sacrifices in Punjab. I want to ask Punjab’s Chief Minister why such an attack on a servant outside Darbar Sahib was allowed to happen. CM Mann should resign from his position,”
Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja said,
“I believe that not everything is fine in Punjab. Taking the accused into custody is no great achievement. I hold the Punjab government responsible for this.”
