After fresh gun-and-bomb attacks in Manipur’s Imphal East led to two persons being injured on Friday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh “strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing”, suggesting central and state police have proper coordination.
Armed men from the hills conducted a gun-and-bomb attack in the district’s Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi villages, injuring at least two people, including a police officer.
According to a senior police official, the incident spurred security agents to retaliate, leading to a violent altercation and said.

“Adequate security personnel have been rushed to the affected areas. The injured are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the government calls for calm and unity in the face of such challenges. Central forces and state police should have proper coordination and understanding when dealing with such situations,”.
Policeman K Haridash suffered bullet injuries in a gunfight with armed men from the hills. He was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences for minor surgery. A village volunteer also suffered minor injuries. Both were part of a joint operation.

“Armed men from the hilltops started firing indiscriminately and hurling bombs around 10.45 am at Sanasabi village and adjacent areas, forcing security personnel to retaliate,”.
Security forces rescued several women, children, and senior citizens in Manipur after a crossfire with armed men. The violence has been ongoing since last year’s ethnic clashes between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups. It resulted in over 250 deaths and thousands homeless. An investigation is underway into extortion demands, possibly related to the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party.
