Vivek Murthy, the U.S. Surgeon General, supported the inclusion of cancer risk warnings on the labels of alcoholic beverages. According to the surgeon, most Americans still ignore that drinking alcohol raises the risk of at least seven different cancers, even including liver, colon, and breast cancer.
To encourage people to take cancer risks into account when determining whether or how much to drink. The surgeon also calls for a review of alcohol consumption guidelines.
In a released statement with the latest findings, Murthy’s office also states that the type of alcohol consumed is irrelevant and said
“Alcohol consumption is the third leading preventable cause of cancer in the United States, after tobacco and obesity,”.
The study clearly shows that drinking more alcohol raises the risk of cancer. Two drinks a day increases the risk of cancer by roughly five women and three men per 100.
According to the Surgeon General’s advisory, alcohol causes more than 13,500 alcohol-related traffic crash deaths annually. As well as 100,000 US cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths.
