More than a month after a bomb sparked alarming in the same region. The explosion was reported Thursday morning from Prashant Vihar in Rohini, Delhi. According to a Reuters story, the event happened close to a park’s perimeter wall, and authorities were looking into a “white powder” that was discovered strewn about the area.
Delhi Fire Service said Prashant Vihar called about a blast at 11:48 a.m. on Thursday. Teams from the Delhi Police Crime Branch, Special Cell, and Bomb Disposal Squad, commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG), arrived later after fire tenders had hurried to the scene.
Top investigative agencies rushed to the scene to look for clues after a powerful bomb tore through a wall of the CRPF school in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar last month, sending terror around the city. The incident did not result in multiple injuries.
Following the explosion, officials issued a high alert for the city.
According to an Indian Express report, the explosion may have been caused by burning cigarette butts that were thrown by a man walking his dog and came into contact with industrial waste in a garbage dump, despite initial investigations suggesting that a crude bomb may have caused the blast.
Police and witnesses said the blast, which was caught on CCTV, damaged a few neighboring automobiles and demolished part of the school wall as well as the windowpanes of surrounding businesses. The blast was audible from a few hundred meters distant.
Following the blast, the area was cordoned off by personnel from the Delhi Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and National Security Guard (NSG), and samples were taken from the scene by forensic specialists.
