The BJP core committee decided on Wednesday that Devendra Fadnavis, the leader of the BJP, will be returning to Maharashtra as chief minister for a third term. The resolution, which put an end to earlier ambiguity, confirms Fadnavis’s leadership in the formation of the new Maharashtra administration.
Vijay Rupani, the former Gujarat chief minister who was assigned as the party’s observer at the Maharashtra legislative assembly meeting, made the suggestion that Fadnavis be reinstated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present at the swearing-in ceremony. According to media agencies, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar are also anticipated to take the oath of office as deputy chief ministers.
Fadnavis (54), an MLA from Nagpur, will take the oath of office as Maharashtra’s chief minister for the third time. Extensive security measures have been put in place for the swearing-in ceremony, which will take place at the Azad Maidan in south Mumbai. After two weeks of rigorous discussions following the state assembly elections on November 20—the results of which were announced on November 23—the administration under Fadnavis was formed.
After the BJP’s impressive election performance, which saw it gain 132 seats in the 288-member House, Fadnavis became the front-runner for the coveted position. The Mahayuti alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, has a resounding majority of 230 seats together with its partners the Shiv Sena and NCP. Along with Shinde and Pawar, Fadnavis met with state governor CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday to formally lay claim to form the government and deliver coalition partners’ letters of support.
Fadnavis, who is recognized as the mastermind behind the BJP’s historic triumph in Maharashtra, played a crucial role in the party’s victory in 132 of the 149 seats it ran for. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a crucial BJP supporter, has endorsed his return to the chief ministership, further solidifying his standing within the party.
