At least four people were killed when a bus from Muktsar to Amritsar toppled off a bridge into a sewer near Faridkot, Punjab. Twenty-six people have already been evacuated, and rescue efforts are still underway as injured passengers are being treated in hospitals.
Punjab bus accident: According to PTI on Tuesday, a bus headed for Amritsar collapsed from a ridge into a drain near Faridkot, Punjab, killing at least four persons. The rescue effort is in progress, and the injured passengers have been taken to the hospital.
According to Indian Express, the bus was on its way from Muktsar, Punjab, and was owned by Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, the Gidderbaha MLA, and his company, New Deep Transports.
When the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and it fell off the bridge, the disaster happened close to Kotkapura Road. Most of the passengers are rescued and efforts are made to the; passengers away from the drain.
Senior police officers and other rescue crews hurried to the scene and started the rescue effort shortly after the bus crash.
According to Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain, 26 passengers have been saved so far and taken to a hospital in Faridkot, she informed PTI.
Police claim that the vehicle fell from a bridge into the drain after the driver allegedly lost control of it. We’re waiting for further information regarding the accident.
In another incident, on the morning of January 31, a pick-up van and a canter truck collided in Ferozpur, Punjab, resulting in eleven fatalities and fifteen injuries.
People who had previously worked as waiters were being transported by the pick-up vehicle to a Jalalabad event. Police informed PTI that the accident happened close to a village in the Guruharsahai subdivision.
Saumya Mishra, the Senior Superintendent of Police for Ferozepur, stated that teams from the “Sadak Suraksha Force” (SSF) arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and began the rescue effort.
“Five ambulances had reached the spot immediately after the incident”, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma told PTI. Sharma further stated that the government will pay for the injured travelers’ medical care.
Many leaders from different parties, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, expressed their sorrow over the deaths in the disaster and wished the injured a swift recovery.
