Social media users have expressed perplexity and sadness at Deepinder Goyal’s decision to rebrand Zomato as Eternal. Goyal clarifies that while the meal delivery app will continue to use the Zomato moniker, the name change represents the company’s growth.
Social media users are upset and saddened by Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal’s decision to rename the company “Eternal,” and many are turning to memes as a way to deal with the “ewww” news.
On Thursday, Deepinder Goyal posted on X and announced the change in the name of the food and grocery delivery major Zomato to “Eternal”. This is more than two years after it began using the new name internally.
Deepinder Goyal said
“When we acquired Blinkit, we started using ‘Eternal’ (instead of Zomato) internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there. We would like to rename Zomato Ltd, the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd,”.
Nonetheless, Zomato, the company’s meal delivery service and brand name, will not change.
According to Deepinder Goyal, “Eternal” will include the four main companies that now operate: Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the company’s shareholders, and other relevant statutory agencies must all approve the change, according to its regulatory filing.
