On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump unveiled a brand-new “gold card” for foreign nationals. According to Trump, these $5 million cards would be offered to foreigners who wish to immigrate to the US in order to generate employment.

The US President claims that the Gold Card will be a “premium version” of the Green Card, providing a route to citizenship for immigrants.

The “EB-5” immigrant investor visa program, which awards green cards to foreigners who pledge to invest in US companies, will be replaced, Donald Trump told reporters.

US President stated

“We are going to be selling a gold card… We are going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million,”.

He added

“It’s going to give you green card privileges plus its going to be a route to (American) citizenship, and wealthy people would be coming into our country by buying this card,”.

According to Donald Trump, the new Gold Card program’s specifics will be released in two weeks.

The move might replace the current EB-5 program, according to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who was with Trump in the Oval Office when he signed the executive orders on Tuesday.

However, the President did not address the need to provide jobs for Gold Card visa holders.

He also suggested that in order to lower the deficit, the federal government could sell 10 million “gold cards.” The move “could be great, maybe it will be fantastic,” according to Trump.

He also stated

“It’s somewhat like a green card, but at a higher level of sophistication, it’s a road to citizenship for people, and essentially people of wealth or people of great talent, where people of wealth pay for those people of talent to get in, meaning companies will pay for people to get in and to have long, long term status in the country,”.
