Indian nationals can now enter Malaysia for up to 30 days without a visa thanks to an official extension of the visa exemption that was granted until December 31, 2026.
Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman made the news, stressing that the extension is in line with Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN chairmanship and Visit Malaysia Year 2026 plans.
First proposed in 2023, the visa liberalization plan seeks to boost economic growth and tourism. Chinese nationals have also been given a similar exemption, demonstrating Malaysia’s determination to draw more tourists from important markets.
At present two airlines are operating fights between Kolkata and Kuala Lumpur.
According to the visa exemption policy of December 1, 2023. Indian nationalist can stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days by presenting the return of the fight tickets and proof of sufficient funds for their stay. Either this can be a form of bank statement or credit card upon arrival.
Malaysia’s tourism industry has seen a significant surge in Indian tourists, with over one million arrivals this year, marking a 47% increase from 2019 and a 71.7% rise from the previous year.
From December 1, 2023, until December 31, 2026, holders of Indian passports are permitted entry into Malaysia without a visa. The maximum stay duration for this visa-free admission is 30 days per visit.

- Have a passport valid for at least six months.
- Confirming return or having the onward flight tickets within 30 days of arrival.
- Confirmed hotel booking and payment information.
- Having sufficient financial provisions like 50 USD per day.
- Complete the Malaysian Digital Arrival Card online at the JIM portal.
- Undergoing a final profile check upon arrival from Malaysian Immigration.
- Requiring copies of the parents’ passports and a birth certificate for applicants who are minors.
- Before entering Malaysia, visitors for work or other reasons must obtain the necessary visa.
- The type of visa issued determines how long an Indian national’s Malaysian visa is valid. For instance, work visas can last up to two years, although business visas are normally only valid for 30 days.
